HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Football in Hatfield Broad Oak dates back to 1925, with early teams playing in the village as a competitive side in the 1930s.
The club thrived in the 1970s and 1980s under manager Roy Field, including a successful Sunday team.
After years of inactivity and an dilapidated pitch, the village lacked a football team.
In 2009, the Parish Council approved a plan for a new village green and sports pitches, paving the way for football’s return. Paul Beauchamp, Mark Strutt, and Leigh Trevitt reformed the club that year, joined by other community members.
The first training session was held in May 2010, attracting over 80 attendees.
A veterans’ team was formed in 2010, managed by Simon Marshall, and began playing friendlies with local villages.
By 2011, HBO Vets FC joined the Greene King Essex League, finishing 7th in their debut season and winning the Sportsmanship Award.
Our Vision
“To build a football club that thrives on the field and uplifts the community beyond it”
THE NEXT GENERATION
In 2012, the club expanded to include youth football, with Mark Strutt and Luke Chapman qualifying as FA Level 1 coaches.
Saturday morning sessions for ages 4 to 11 began, emphasizing fun, creativity, and skill development.
Mental & Physical Wellbeing
The club offers a pressure-free environment where kids can grow in confidence and creativity—echoing the philosophies of Sir Trevor Brooking and Arsène Wenger B.
Regular sessions provide structure, exercise, and emotional support, especially valuable in rural communities.
Volunteerism and Leadership
Many coaches and organisers are local parents and residents, building leadership skills and giving back to the village.
The club actively encourages new volunteers, offering roles in coaching, admin, and event support.
Safeguarding
The welfare of our young players is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all children and young people involved in football.
All coaches, managers, and volunteers follow The FA’s Safeguarding Children Policy and procedures.
HBO SPORTS & COMMUNITY CLUB
Founded in 2010, the HBOSCC was established to support village clubs and safeguard the Village Green. In 2024, the charity was revitalised with the appointment of both new and seasoned trustees, including HBO FC Chairman Mark Strutt.
HBOSCC is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the Village Green as a shared space for sport and community engagement. Its core aims include:
- Providing high-quality facilities for local sports clubs
- Supporting nature and ecological initiatives
- Creating a safe, inclusive environment for all residents
Through HBOSCC, HBO FC continues to play a key role in breathing life into the Village Green – transforming it into a vibrant hub for sporting and social activity, while championing its long-term upkeep and growth.
